BIOGRAPHY

During the mid to late 60’s, there was only one champion in the 68 kg Category. He was Abdollah Movahed from Iran. Like his counterpart Habibi, he came from the Mazandaran province, where many great champions are born. After entering the national team at a young age, he started to work on his fitness & stamina. He was so technically gifted that his coaches knew no one could stop him once he was physically ready. That is exactly what happened in all the world championships from 1965 to 1971. For 6 consecutive years, Movahed won every major contest that he entered.

The highlight of his career was the 1968 Olympics in Mexico, where he won gold medal for Iran. He could have doubled his Olympic glory in 1972 but for a shoulder injury in the earlier rounds. Movahed later moved to USA but refused to train American wrestlers in case they had to face an Iranian opponent in a major tournament. Some commentators believe he was a complete wrestler.
