Peter Kirov – Sofia, Bulgaria

The name of Peter Kirov is unique in the wrestling all over the world (Graeco – Roman style). He is the only wrestler in the wrestling history, which started to practice when he was 21 years old and gain huge success. His achievements are:

Two times Olympic champion (Mexico – 1986; Germany – 1972), three times World champion (Edmonton – 1970, Sofia – 1971, Katowice -1974), four times European champion (Minsk- 1967, Berlin – 1970, Madrid – 1974, Leningrad -1976). Over an 11 year period he did not have a loss and he won the International Tournament “Nikola Petrov”, which is a record that may never be broken.

On the Olympic Games in Germany 72, he won his second Olympic medal without loosing even one technical point, which is unique. Those phenomenal successes he made with creative and professional work, hard training and strict regimen.

Peter Kirov graduate the National Sports Academy “Vassil Levski” with excellent marks, he earned a PhD and became a professor.

Prof. Peter Kirov is a head of the Wrestling department in National Sports Academy “Vassil Levski”.
